About The Blueprint

Welcome to The Blueprint of a Craft Podcast, where we share high-impact insights from our conversations with Visionaries, Entrepreneurs, Community Builders, and Team Leaders. Each episode distills principles from their personal blueprints—giving you practical ideas grounded in Play, Deep Conversation, and Self-awareness to help you elevate your leadership journey and craft.

The Core Concept

Leadership influence is built on creating environments where people feel genuinely seen, valued, and safe. This includes if they are clients receiving a service or team members carrying out daily operations.

True impact occurs when a leader moves past people-pleasing and builds clear systems, boundaries, and accountability structures that prevent burnout, foster individual potential, and grant the entire team the freedom to thrive.

How We Define Leadership

Inspired by business magazines such as Harvard Business Review, McKinsey and Center for Creative Leadership, we define leadership as a behavioral process that bridges a compelling future state with concrete operational execution. Leadership is the behavioral bridge that makes the collective future vision a reality.

Key Leadership Points

  • Structure Creates Safety and Freedom: Clear policies, systems, and accountability remove ambiguity for your team, creating an environment of psychological safety that gives everyone—including the leader—the freedom to perform at their best.

  • Overcoming the People-Pleasing Trap: Leading with care is a superpower, but letting empathy override boundaries leads to burnout and operational inconsistency; true care involves holding people accountable to shared standards.

  • Curiosity as a Competitive Advantage: Remaining open and curious—rather than jumping to conclusions—allows leaders to continuously adapt protocols, foster creative customization, and navigate rapid industry changes.

  • Combating Leadership Loneliness Through Peer Community: Because leadership creates natural boundaries between bosses and employees, seeking external peer communities (like peer advisory networks or mastermind groups) is essential for emotional balance, strategic perspective, and honest feedback.

Guest Origin Story

Elyse's spark occurred at age 16 during her very first facial for childhood acne. Experiencing the sights, sounds, scents, and gentle care, she felt deeply seen, accepted, and loved.

Knowing instantly that this was her life's calling, she completed one semester of college before pivoting directly to esthetician school at 18. At 25, she opened her day spa, eventually scaling it to 20 employees and 12 treatment rooms.

Guest Current 'Craft' Progress

Elyse currently operates Spa Haus Nashville, delivering high-quality, personalized wellness experiences through a dedicated, highly trained team. Having overcome years of leadership burnout and trial-and-error by implementing firm operational systems and mindset practices (such as Transcendental Meditation and daily gratitude journaling), she also launched a spa consulting arm to help fellow spa owners streamline their operations.

Guest 'Craft' Future

Elyse is expanding her coaching and consulting platform, Your Spa Experts, and is writing a book designed to help spa owners avoid burnout and master business fundamentals. Her goal is to share her operational frameworks and mindset practices through speaking, consulting, and authoring so other wellness entrepreneurs can build flourishing, autonomous businesses.

The 3 Principles of Successful 'Craft' Pursuit

  • Play: Balance intense drive ("Enneagram 3 Achiever") with travel, exploring new cultures, work-hard/play-hard mentalities, and lighthearted childhood creativity.

  • Deep Conversation: Navigate vulnerable topics like leadership loneliness, emotional burnout, pandemic-related team heartbreaks, and the necessity of honest, direct communication.

  • Self-Awareness: Recognize the fine line between empathy and people-pleasing, grounding energy through transcendental meditation and gratitude practices, and leaning on supportive partners and peer communities to maintain balance.

Practical Exercise

"Structure to Freedom" Policy Review

  1. Identify the Friction: Reflect on your current team, business, or daily workflow and pinpoint one area where you frequently feel anxious, frustrated, or inclined to "people-please."

  1. Define the Standard: Draft a single, clear policy or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that defines exact expectations, responsibilities, and outcomes for that friction point.

  1. Communicate with Compassion: Share the updated standard with your team or stakeholders, framing it around mutual clarity: "This boundary exists so everyone knows what success looks like and has the safety to do their best work."

  1. Hold the Line: Practice upholding this standard consistently for two weeks without making emotional exceptions, noticing the mental bandwidth and freedom it restores.
